Presentation
How a Performance Analysis Methodology Can Guide the Optimization of EUROfusion HPC Scientific Codes
Presenter
DescriptionApplication developers from all fields relying on HPC deal with two challenges. On the one hand, they push their codes to solve more relevant use cases or more detailed simulations to advance in their field of study. On the other hand, they try to efficiently use the computational resources while scaling up to more cores and nodes and porting and adapting their codes to the new HPC architectures. In this talk, we will show how starting with detailed performance analysis and working together with application developers and users to understand the specific needs of the particular science; we succeed in identifying the main bottlenecks of fusion research codes. To this effect, we will explain some practical examples of how using several performance tools on the EUROfusion codes helped developers understand their behavior and find ways to improve their performance to run on HPC systems.
