Outlook on Loop Scheduling Between Theory and Practice
DescriptionDynamic loop scheduling (DLS) techniques are designed to overcome the imbalanced execution of loops in scientific codes. Most of these techniques were devised between the early 1990s and 2000s. Modern high-performance computing (HPC) systems exhibit many technological advancements at the hardware and software levels. In this talk, we will review recent DLS-related research efforts and highlight specific perspectives to answer the following questions: How do modern HPC hardware and software stacks impact DLS techniques? How far are modern HPC libraries/frameworks support DLS from the literature? How can domain scientists face choice paralysis?
