SUMMARY:HPC and Large Data Challenges for Public Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nSylvain Cardin (EPFL)\n\nHis presentation aim
s to address the challenges of effectively presenting and communicating la
rge data sets to a broad audience. In order to achieve this goal, we will
focus on three main areas: quality of visualization, simplification and vu
lgarisation, and technical challenges. We will discuss the importance of h
igh-quality visualization and interactivity to engage and retain the atten
tion of viewers. We will also explore the need for simplification and vulg
arisation in order to present understandable trends to a non-technical aud
ience. Lastly, we will examine the technical challenges of preprocessing d
ata, achieving real-time performance, and ensuring portability across vari
ous platforms. To illustrate these concepts, we will showcase a range of c
oncrete past and current installations from the eM+ laboratory. These setu
ps include a CAVE, 360° panorama stereo, and linear navigator, to visualiz
e a variety of research work and material, such as the Montreux Jazz, Vide
o archive exhibition, Photogrammetry scans, Plasma Fusion, and cosmologica
l exploration… Overall, this presentation will offer insights and practica
l solutions for effectively communicating large data sets to a broad audie
nce, while also highlighting different use cases of high-power computing.\
