SUMMARY:Infrastructure for Next Generation Earth System Modeling Using ES
 MF/NUOPC
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nMariana Vertenstein (Norwegian Meteorological
Institute)\n\nThe Community Mediator for Earth Prediction Systems (CMEPS)
is an extensible ESMF/NUOPC-compliant coupler component capable of coupli
ng atmosphere, ocean, sea ice, land, wave, river and glacier models. CMEPS
provides the coupling infrastructure for the Community Earth System Model
(CESM), the NOAA Unified Forcast System (UFS), the Norwegian Earth System
Model (NorESM), the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) Ea
rth System Model (CMCC-CM3) and the Consortium for Ocean-Sea Ice Modelling
in Australia. CMEPS provides many new capabilities for Earth System Scien
ce, including permitting an arbitrary number of ice sheets (including Gree
nland and Antarctica) to run simultaneously. As a companion to CMEPS, a se
t of next generation "data components" called the Community Data Models fo
r Earth Prediction Systems (CDEPS) have also been developed. CDEPS consist
s of a set of ESMF/NUOPC-compliant components capable of injecting forcing
s, such as reanalysis products, directly into a NUOPC-based coupled system
. Forcing data can be at different resolutions as well as temporal frequen
cies from the model simulation. CDEPS can carry out various spatial and ti
me interpolations at run time, thereby permitting a wide range of forcing
datasets. In this talk a summary of new science and performance capabiliti
es that CMEPS and CDEPS enable.\n\nDomain: Climate, Weather and Earth Scie
nces\n\nSession Chair: Vijay Mahadevan (Argonne National Laboratory, TechT
