DescriptionFundamental theories that describe natural phenomena at subatomic scales require some of the more sophisticated and demanding computer simulations. For several decades there has been a fertile exchange between the particle physics theory and the HPC communities. As an introduction to the miniworkshop, I will review some of the challenges and opportunities that have emerged in recent years as a result of new theoretical and technological developments.
