EXCLAIM - The Multi-Dimensional Space of Project Coordination
DescriptionEXCLAIM (Extreme-scale computing and data platform for cloud-resolving weather and climate modeling) is an ETH Zurich project that aims to develop an ICON-model-based infrastructure that is capable of running kilometer-scale climate simulations at both regional and global scales. With this talk, I invite you to look behind the scenes of the coordination of this multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional project. Without a doubt, the expert team builds the core of EXCLAIM. But apart from the software engineers and the scientists, who or what else is playing an essential role in the project? Although everybody agrees that communication is the key to success, why is it still challenging to establish and maintain efficient communication channels? How do we navigate ICON model development in a continuously changing environment? How do external factors such as the pandemic or the energy crisis affect our endeavor? From my position as the EXCLAIM project coordinator, I will show you our project from a different perspective.
