Katja Baerenfaller studied biology at ETH Zurich and did her PhD in the Institute of Molecular Cancer Research (IMCR) at the University of Zurich. She did her postdoc in the Plant Biotechnology Group at ETH Zurich and in parallel completed the Bioinformatics e-learning certificate programme at the University of Manchester. In 2010, she became a group leader at ETH Zurich, where she received the venia legendi in Functional Genomics at the Department of Biology in 2016. Since 2017 she is head of the Molecular Allergology group at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland, which is affiliated with the University of Zurich (UZH). In Davos, she became a board member of Science City Davos and of Naturforschende Gesellschaft Davos. Her work has contributed to the approval of two special professorships of the Canton of the Grisons and the establishment of the Centre for Data Analysis, Visualisation and Simulation (DAViS) at the FHGR with SIAF as the main project partner, and the Centre for Precision Proteomics at the Davos Medical Campus. She became a group leader at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) in 2018, and since 2021 she is a member of the SIB Board of Directors.
